Thongsala is the main town on the island and home to the main services and travel connections. From here you can take the ferry to either Koh Samui or Surat Thani. The town has several amentities including banks and ATMs, a post office, supermarkets and souvenir shops.
Although there are not many luxury villas on Thongsala for holidays or longer lettings, there are several good value guesthouses and small holiday villas and lets in the Thongsala area and there are a number of resorts along the beaches either side of the town, as well as real estate.
There is an excellent choice of restaurants in Thongsala, with traditional Thai seafood restaurants, curry stalls and good quality street food; a multitude of Western restaurants such as Italian, English, French, Greek and a Japanese restaurant.
It’s worth spending a day walking around the town and checking out the various shops particularly a few of the smaller boutique shops which have an excellent variety of crafts, jewellery, clothes, artwork and traditional Thai items. On Saturdays.
