Wok Tum is located on the west of Koh Phangan and is a charming and quirky village. Once Koh Phangan’s main road passed this bay, but with the road built through the centre of the island this road is now generally only used by locals making Ao Wok Tum one of the more quiet beaches in Koh Phangan. It is a wide sweeping bay which is good for sunbathing and long secluded strolls. The area remains largely undeveloped with a scattering of property, long stay villas and holiday villas.
It’s a great spot to come to experience a more laid back and sleepy lifestyle that is a great deal more representative of the real Thailand than the party and tourist lifestyle for which Koh Phangan has become known. Ban Wok Tum is home to a small number of bars and restaurants that are well worth a visit including Angels Bay for fresh fish and wood fired pizzas or JJ’s for fresh smoothies and good Thai food.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t call this part of the island home all year round though as there are a number of houses and bungalows that can be rented on a short term or long term basis for both holiday lets and longer stays. There are a number of properties which have direct beach access and offer a bohemian and tranquil location with stunning sunsets and views of the Angtong Marine park. A number of expats have made their home in Wok Tum and there are a few high end villas for sale or available to rent.
The scenery around the village makes for some beautiful walks and hikes and the beach of Hin Kong is a short distance away. Despite some of the tourist resorts closing at certain times of the year, you can still find everything that you might need. For everything else access to other parts of the island is easy including to Thong Sala which is less than a 10 minute drive or else the laid back village of Sri Thanu is only a 5 minute drive away. Sri Thanu has several shops, all basic amenities and a number of restaurants which are worth a visit including the very popular Mamma Poohs.
